Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting interim Budget for 2024-2025 on 1st February 2024 has announced that the healthcare cover under Ayushman Bharat Insurance Scheme will be extended for all ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) and Anganwadi Workers and helpers. She has also announced that the government intends to setup more medical colleges for the citizens of India. The budget allocation has been hiked from Rs. 6,800 Crore to Rs. 7,500 Crore. The Ayushman Bharat will be the largest publicly funded health insurance scheme in the world which provides coverage of Rs. 5 Lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
