The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the launch of a new Portal under which the people from different faith communities such as Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian communities having their origin from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan can have the Indian citizenship under CAA-2019. The online portal has been released to fill out the application form to get the Indian citizenship. This portal will go live from Tuesday morning 12’March 2024. Under the CAA rules the application form has to be submitted in electronic form to an empowered committee through the district-level committee which may be notified by central government.

The primary objective of CAA Online Portal is to provide Indian citizenship under CAA-2019 to people from different faith communities such as Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian communities having their origin from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan. Eligibility Criteria

To get the Indian Citizenship under CAA-2019, you should fulfill these eligibility criteria:

  • Individuals from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian communities having their origin from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan are eligible for Indian Citizenship.
  • Arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014.
  • Granted exemption under section 3(2)(c) of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, or exempted from the application of the Foreigners Act, 1946 or any relevant rule or order.

Required Documents

The documents required for application are as follows:

  • Copy of the passport issued by the Government of Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • Registration Certificate or Residential Permit issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) in India Birth Certificate issued by the Government Authority in Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • Any other document issued by a Government Authority or the Government Agency in Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan which establish that the applicants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • Any document that shows that either of the parents or grandparents or great-grandparents of the applicant is or had been a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • Identity Document of any kind issued by Government of Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan or any other Government Authorities or Government agencies in these countries.
  • Any License or Certificate issued by a Government authority of Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • School Certificate or Educational Certificate issued by the School, College, Board or University authorities in Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.
  • Land or tenancy records in Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan.

Note: The above documents will be accepted even beyond their validity period.

Application Procedure for CAA Online Portal

To apply for Indian Citizenship under CAA-2019, candidate should follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Visit the Official Website i.e. https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/.
  • Applicant should fill the relevant form.
  • Attach all the required documents as mentioned.
  • Pay the fee online of Rs. 50/- only.
  • During the application process applicant can choose to receive either an ink-signed copy or digital version of the certificate of registration or naturalization.
  • If applicant chooses for an ink-signed copy it will be provided accordingly. Otherwise a digital certificate will be issued.
  • Once the application is submitted an electronic acknowledgement will be automatically generated and made available to the applicant.
  • The District Level Committee (DLC) will then scan the form.
  • then DLC will notify the applicant via email or SMS about the date and time for an in-person visit.
  • During the in-person visit applicant needs to bring all the original documents attached to the application for verification.
  • After successful verification the designated officer will then administer the “Oath of Allegiance” to the applicant who has applied for citizenship by registration under Section 5 or naturalization under Section 6.
